The 3rd European Armenian Convention held in Brussels

The European Armenian Federation for Justice and Democracy (EAFJD) an Armenian advocacy NGO based in Brussels hosted its 3rd Armenian convention which took place over the course of two days  in Brussels, Belgium.

During the two day convention participants gathered from all over Europe including members of the Armenian community, Diaspora and others who came together to participate within the discussions which were aimed at addressing topics relevant to the Armenian cause. The convention also welcomed an Armenian delegation of around ten members including the President of Nagorno Karabakh Bako Sahakyan, the Speaker of the Armenian National Assembley Hovik Abrahamyan and His Holiness Aram I of the Holy See of Cilicia.

The conference addressed a number of topics relevant to Armenia bringing to attention the issue of Turkish recognition for the Armenian Genocide under the grounds of international law, the current state and future of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict, the future stability of the South Caucuses and a number of other issues.

The second day of the conference which took place at the European Parliament, included opening speeches from the director of the EAFJD, Mr Kaspar Karampetyan, the President of the EU-Armenia Friendship Group in the European Parliament Eleni Theocharous, Joseph Daul, the leader of the European Peoples party, His Holiness Aram I of the Holy See of Cilicia, speaker Hovik Abrahamyan and also the President of Nagorno Karabkh, Bako Sahakyan who made a symbolic address in his first ever speech at the European Parliament. The conference also played host to some other high level participants including Geoffrey Robertson QC, Bernard Fassier, an ex OSCE negotiator, Giro Manoyan, the Director of International Secretariat for ARF-Dtional Secretariat of ARF-D, Armenia), and Members of European Parliament including, Andrey Kovatchev, Frank Engel and Knut Fleckenstein.
